Description

The only Great Lake that sits entirely inside the United States, and one of the most recognisable shapes on the map. A great gift for anyone from Chicago, Milwaukee, Green Bay or Traverse City, or for a lake house wall.

Print your own Lake Michigan as a clean 3D wall piece, built from real shoreline data and kept true to scale, with north up. You can pick out Green Bay, the Door Peninsula and Grand Traverse Bay, with Beaver Island and Washington Island as real cut-outs that let the wall show through.

What you get

  • 250 size: 129 x 250 x 10 mm, fits a 256 mm print bed
  • 600 size: 311 x 600 x 18 mm, for large-format printers
  • STL file for each size, ready to slice
  • STEP file for each size, for editing in Fusion, SolidWorks, Onshape or FreeCAD

Suggested print settings

  • Layer height: 0.2 mm, 3 to 4 walls, 10 to 15% infill
  • Orientation: flat, with the front face on the plate
  • Supports should not be needed, but check the keyhole slots in your slicer preview

Green Bay is a long, narrow arm, so handle it with care when taking the print off the plate. The piece is tall and narrow, so the two screws sit close together, especially on the 250 size. Use a level when you mark the holes.

Hanging

Keyhole slots are built into the back, so it hangs flat on two wood screws with a head up to about 8.5 mm and a shank up to 4.5 mm. Screw spacing is 24 mm on the 250 size and 88 mm on the 600 size. Leave the head standing about 3 mm off the wall, then slide the piece down onto the screws.

To keep the model printable, details thinner than about 2 mm are simplified and very small islands are left out. The images are computer renders, not photos of a print.
